How do I Setup or add POP mail boxes to Netscape Messenger ?

Setting up Mailbox for e-mailGo into Netscape Messenger
Go into Edit Section
Go down the list until you reach Preferences. Click on this.
Double Click on the Mail & Newsgroups category.
Click on the Identity Sub Category

Identity:

You will be presented with a number of edit boxes.

Your Name:
Enter your Name in this box. This determines what name appears as the sender of your e-mail.
Email Address:
Enter the e-mail address that you wish to send and recieve mail through.
Reply-to address(only needed if different from email address)
Optional section. Leave this blank as it will not affect the set up of your e-mail.
Organization:
This box is also optional. You can either leave it blank or enter the name of your Organisation.
Signature File:
attach my personal card to messages (as a VCard)
Optional section. Leave this blank as it will not affect the set up of your e-mail.

Once this section is set up, proceed to the Mail Servers section by clicking on the Mail Servers Sub Category.

Mail Servers:

The first section is called Incoming Mail Servers.
To add a new mail server, click the Add button at the top of the section.
You will be presented with the Mail Server Properties Window.

Mail Server Properties:

Server Name: enter the incoming mail server address found on your paperwork. (Either mail.swiftinter.net, mail2.swiftinter.net, mail3.swiftinter.net, mail4.swiftinter.net, ,mail5.swiftinter.net, mail6.swiftinter.net, etc, etc.)
Server Type: Select POP3 Server
User Name: Enter your designated user name

Then Click OK. You will now be back at the Mail Servers section.

NOTE: If you have more than one e-mail account set up, be sure to select the one you want to use from the list and set it as the default e-mail account by clicking on the Set as Default button.

The second section is called Outgoing Mail Server.

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: This is the outgoing mail server of your dialup Internet access account.

  • If you are using a swift dial-up account then enter smtp.swiftserve.net
  • If you are using any other dialup account then contact your ISP and ask them for your outgoing mail server address.

Outgoing mail server user name: This is the user name of your dialup Internet access account, see below.

  • If you are using a swiftserve dialup account then the username will have the prefix swi
  • If you are using an OLM dialup account then the username will have the prefix olm
  • If you are using any other dialup account then contact your ISP and ask them for your outgoing mail server user name.

Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages: Select Never.

Repeat if you need to setup multiple POP boxes

Once you have finished setting up your POP boxes, click the OK button.
