How do I upload my web site to the server using FTP software CoffeeCup Free FTP ?



This FTP program allows the user to manipulate the files to and from the web site via a simple window interface. This guide shows you how to configure the program to connect to your site.

To add a site

  • Click Server
  • Add Server

Or click on the icon:

This will bring up the window below. Enter the details hightlighted. Ensure that Passive mode is disabled, as it is not supported.


Starting Directories
Selecting starting directories enable the user to specify the folder that the FTP program will go to, both on the server and the user's PC.

Remote Directory Notes

For Server types 1 & 2 enter: /httpdocs (always enter in lowercase)
Server Type 3 to 7 enter: /web
(always enter in lowercase)
Server Type 10 to 24 enter: /httpdocs
Server Type 50 to 60 enter: /httpdocs

Passive mode:
Modem users: Ensure that Passive mode is disabled, as it is not supported.

ADSL with NAT: You may need to enable Passive mode - check with your vendor.

Once the details are entered, click "Cool" to preserve your settings. Ensure that your internet connection is running and then click on the connect icon.

Select the site you want to connect to and click "Cool"

If log on is successful, the you will then be able to upload new items and manage your files on the server.

Important Note Your default page (Home Page) must be named index.html otherwise it will not automatically load upon entering the site. Please also note that the Server is case sensitive to file names, therefore we recommend that you always use lower case.
