FTP Uploading For Users of Windows Web publishing Wizard
How Do I Publish Using Windows Web publishing wizard? The web page wizard allows you to publish pages to your web site. It provides a simple approach to setting up single, or small collections of pages. It's main disadvantage is that it does not show what is already on the web server, so records must be kept of what work you have done. Otherwise, you may overwrite essential work.
This FAQ covers using the wizard to transfer via FTP It is advisable to use a direct internet connection when using this wizard, as a firewall can prevent the wizard from finding the server.
To begin the process of uploading your page, open the Web Wizard:

Enter the location of the page(s) you wish to publish

If you are using the wizard for the first time, it will ask you for a name to remember the settings for the upload. The name you give it will only be for easy recognition.

Select advanced, then choose FTP from the connection methods.

Then enter the URL for the web site your wish to publish. This will be in the form http://www.domain/location of the public folder. To ensure the correct folder location is chosen see the notes below

For Server types 1 & 2 enter: /httpdocs (always enter in lowercase) Server Type 3 to 8 enter: /web (always enter in lowercase) Server Type 10 to 24 enter: /httpdocs Server Type 50 to 60 enter: /httpdocs

The wizard will now ask for the information listed below. The URL for the Web server and directory should already filled.
The sub folder depends on where you want the published page to go.

Thats it. The wizard will try to connect. Choose the appropriate method, make sure you are online, then click finish.

The wizard will ask for account details to log into your site.

If log on is successful, the wizard will publish your selected pages to the location you specified.
Important Note Your default page (Home Page) must be named index.html otherwise it will not automatically load upon entering the site. Please also note that the Server is case sensitive to file names, therefore we recommend that you always use lower case. |
