Setting up ADSL with (Dlink DSL500/5004) ethernet router and Mac OS X

Setting up ADSL with ethernet router and Mac OS X

Connecting to DSL 500 / 504 router on Mac (OS X)

Connection to the DSL 500 router involves a small amount of configuration work, depending on the type you subscribe to. It is important that the Mac OS supports full TCP/IP facilities.

Follow these steps to initiate the configuration:

Select the System Preferences button on the dock:

Select the Network button:

Under Configure, check to see that you have Built-In Ethernet. If not, choose Advanced and check Built-in Ethernet:

Under Configure, select Built-in Ethernet. Ensure that the TCP/IP folder is selected (highlight in blue):

Under TCP/IP, in the Configure field, select either DHCP (a.k.a automatic) or Manually.

Notes

Using DHCP - auto IP assignment

The panel will require you to enter the IP address of the DHCP host. If you are using a standard DSL500 /504 router setup, then this is usually 192.168.0.1. If not then consult your network administrator for the address.

The DHCP will supply the network address, subnet mask, gateway (router) and DNS addresses. You do not need to enter any further information, unless you need to include additional DNS addresses.

Save the settings and reboot the machine.

Manually configured

Enter a fixed netowrk IP address for the machine. In the Subnet Mask field, enter the Subnet Mask for the network. In the Router field, enter the Gateway Router Address (typically 192.168.0.1, otherwise consult your network administrator)

In the Domain Name Servers field, enter the following addresses: 195.74.102.146 &  195.74.102.147

In the Search Domains field, enter swiftinter.net.

Click Save to finish the configuration.

Testing the Configuration

When you have completed the configuration (and rebooted), open the web browser.Enter the router IP address of your router:

http://router IP address

  • NAT and DHCP configurations will typically use 192.168.0.1
  • No NAT/ static internal addresses will have an IP address supplied by Swift (as entered into the TCP/IP panel)

You should be able to see the logon panel for the router. If so the network connection has been successfully made. The router should be able to connect to the internet straight away.
