Setting up ADSL with USB modem for PC (Windows) systems

Installing the DSL-200 USB modem for PC (Windows) systems:

The DSL-200 USB ADSL modem is compatible with Windows 95 (version 2), 98, Me, and Windows 2000 systems. This help guide covers the installation and setup for single machine connections.

Note: fully compliant Windows XP drivers are yet to be released. Swift are testing the USB unit to ascertain reliability.

Installation

1.Before you begin the installation, you MUST unplug the USB connection to the DSL-200.

2.Put the DSL-200 driver disk into the CD-ROM drive. If it does automatically run, find and select the set.exe program from the CD-ROM root.

3.The driver asks which provider you wish to use. Select other service provider.

4.Select the WAN driver from the available versions.

5 The options below are used to validate the communication channel to Swift Internet. The settings below should be used.

6 Once the settings are entered, the system will copy the files to your PC and then begin searching for the DSL-200. At this point the modem should be plugged into the USB socket on your machine.

7 Following a successful detection, your PC will ask to reboot. Once done, you will have a new option on your desktop, to provide logon details for the new connection

8 Enter your username and password. Do not worry about the number provided - it is not important

9 Once the new connection is established, it is a good idea to check that the Internet Explorer (or Netscape) is set to use the ADSL connection, rather than a previous dial up.

  1. Click Start
  2. Settings
  3. Control Panel
  4. Internet Options (aka Internet Settings)
  5. Connections
  6. Select the DLink Dial-Up PPP Connection and set it as default

10You can check on the modem status in one of two ways. There is a new mini icon on the Taskbar (two arrows that flash). Clicking on them brings up the following panel.

In addition, an information applet is now installed in the Control Panel:
