Access SpeedThis is the connection speed - which is unlike ADSL, the connection speed is governed by the analogue modem normaly 56k or the ISDN line. ISDN is made up of 2x 64k lines which if connected together will create a 128k connection. If you need 128k connection select a price plan that accepts 128k.

RatioContention ratio refers to the number of users that will share a port (line). The lower the contention ratio the more likely a user will get connected without engaged tones. For example a 10:1 contention ratio may mean that 10,000 users share 1,000 ports (lines). As it's unlikely that more than 1000 of the 10,000 users will be on the internet at exactly the same time there should always be lines available, and therefore no engaged tones. This is unlike ADSL contention ratios which refers to bandwidth and not to lines.

Sales FAQ's for unmetered dial-up

What is unmetered dialup ?
Unmetered dialup is where an internet dialup user can connect to the internet using an analogue or ISDN BT line and pay a fixed monthly charge with no additional call charges, subject to a maximum number of hours per month.

Are these services available on cable telephone lines ?
No. You need one of the following products from BT. Standard analogue PSTN line, ISDN 2 or ISDN 30.

How long does this take to activate ?
We will aim to get unmetered dial-up orders activated same day.

What unmetered products are available ?
We offer a number of different packages aimed at both home and business users. Certain packages are restricted to certain times of the day or week, also different contention ratios can apply. see www.swiftinter.net/unmetered.php

What is the Maximum online time per month ?
Certain products are restricted to an amount of maximum online time per month in addition to our standard acceptable use policy. Once the maximum on-line time is reached further connection is not possible within that period. You can use one of our 0845 dial-up accounts in this eventuality.

Can I connect to my account from any BT telephone line ?
No, you can only connect from the telephone number you have registered with us.

Can I change my registered telephone number ?
Yes, but you are restricted to 2 changes per calendar month.

How are the monthly charges paid ?
All monthly charges billed quarterly in advance . Payment by direct debit.

Which Packages Support ISDN ?
All of our unmetered dialup accounts support ISDN at 64k. We also support ISDN at 128k on selected packages. Please see the product descriptions for details.

Can I have a fixed IP address ?
Currently we do not offer this service. However we will possibly introduce this at a later date. There is a workaround if you need an SMTP feed. see below for further details.

Can I use your unmetered service for a SMTP feed?
Yes you can. Our unmetered service does give a fixed IP address so we can forward SMTP traffic to the IP address you receive when you connect. This is done automatically without any configuration required by the end user.
For example if your dialup username is jlo@dialunmetered.com then within 10 seconds of connecting the DNS name jlo.dialunmetered.com will resolve to the IP address of the connection. As soon as you log off, the DNS name (e.g. jlo.dialunmetered.com) will be set to a unroutable IP.
In order to get SMTP traffic to your dialup IP you need to set the final destination MX record to your unmetered DNS name (e.g. jlo.dialunmetered.com). Contact Swift Support for further details.

What is the minimum contract term ?
The minimum contract term is 3 months.

What are contention ratios ?
Contention ratio refers to the number of users that will share a port (line).
